Mary Ann

Mary Ann has just completed her third week of radiation in Bloomington, Indiana. I received a telephone call from the woman who owns the condo where Mary Ann and her family are staying during this six week period. UPDATE ACCORDING TO GRETCHEN: Mary Ann’s cheek and mouth are beginning to be quite tender and we can expect the discomfort to increase in the weeks to come. However, Mary Ann’s spirits are good and she still feels like enjoying life. I understand she has just been treated to a pair of inline skates and loves them. She also has her bicycle with her. During the six week period Mary Ann receives radiation — she will only receive two chemotherapy treatments. The first one of those treatments was administered yesterday on Friday the 22nd of September — NOW — for an update on the book — Mary Ann received her book this past week due to a delay in the postal system.
Several members of my local church have purchased extra books to be sent to children’s cancer hospitals and some extra books for Mary Ann to share with the special people she meets along her road to recovery. One of the little ones she intends to share with has a brain tumor. I understand there are also some doctors and nurses who are extra special to her.
Gretchen ( my Bloomington contact ) has just informed me she would like to see her church get involved with this ministry. Wonderful! The more people we have involved in marketing— the more channels we have to sell the book and the quicker we can lift some of the financial burden for this family. We have had the book less than four weeks and it has been distributed in over 40 states and Canada. I would love to hear from some of you and I can be contacted

Mary Ann has now completed 12 weeks of chemotherapy and began her radiation treatments the week of September 4th. During this six week period she will be traveling to Bloomington, Indiana where her family has rented a duplex. A local church there has many volunteers who tend to her daily trips to and from the hospital. Her first week in Bloomington, her sister Hannah accompanied her. This week her grandparents have gone along to serve as her companions. During the six weeks Mary Ann receives radiation, they have reduced her weekly chemotherapy to only two treatments because some of the chemicals she receives do not mix well with the radiation. The doctors have warned her family the first two weeks will be relatively easy but the following four weeks will be very rough. The last four weeks of her treatments will leave her mouth extremely sore and irritated. The radiation is so powerful it will kill the bones and teeth in her cheek and she will require reconstructive surgery as she
develops into a young woman.
Now for an update on Mary Ann’s book. Her book rolled off the press on August 25th and we received them on August 29th. In less than two weeks time we have placed the books in 21 states and Canada. Much of this is due to a pre-print sale in the Amish newspaper called The
Budget. On Saturday, September 9th we attended the Clarita - Coalgate, Oklahoma Amish Auction. Because of the direct donations to Mary Ann’s medical expenses and the sale of Amish clothing for Bunny Big Ears made by Mary Ann’s aunt, we were able to send $621.00 to her family. We would like to thank everyone for their support of this project.
Please keep Mary Ann and her family in your prayers. This little seven year old need a miracle!
